Sanitech brings the science of scent to enhance customer experience

Sanitech, South Africa’s leading provider of sanitation and hygiene solutions, has announced the launch of its new professional scenting range. This strategic expansion is designed to help South African brands move beyond traditional air freshening toward immersive, fragrance-led customer experiences that drive emotional connection and commercial value.

Reflecting the international trend toward sensory-driven engagement, scent has emerged as a powerful tool for brand differentiation. Unlike standard aerosols that simply mask odours, Sanitech’s new offering utilises advanced diffusion technology to create consistent, sophisticated olfactory environments.

“Internationally, we are seeing scenting become prominent in airports and hotels as a core part of the customer journey,” says Robert Erasmus, Managing Director of Sanitech. “It’s a shift toward experience-based initiatives that create a much stronger emotional connection and memory of a place than traditional methods.”

Defining identity through sophisticated scent architecture

The new range represents a move away from the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach of traditional air fresheners. The core differentiator lies in its purpose: transitioning from passive odour control to active brand storytelling. While traditional air fresheners often rely on artificial, single-note sprays, Sanitech’s solutions feature layered, high-quality fragrances that can be tailored to a brand’s specific persona.

“Traditional air freshening is about masking or neutralising smells, whereas brand scenting is about creating a unique customer experience,” explains Erasmus. “Your brand can have its own signature identity. We are offering the ability to craft something bespoke that delivers a sense of familiarity and consistency throughout a retail or hotel space.”

“Whether a brand needs a masculine, feminine, floral, or citrus profile, we can blend a bespoke signature scent that ensures consistency and familiarity across all their locations,” he notes.

Advanced technology and sales impact

The new range employs micro-particle diffusion technology, which ensures that fragrances remain suspended in the air longer and distribute more evenly than heavy-duty droplets from standard sprays. The system is highly versatile and can be deployed as standalone units or integrated directly into a building’s HVAC (air conditioning) system for a seamless, centralised experience.

This technological edge has direct commercial implications. “There is clear evidence to show that the right environment has an impact on behavioural sales uplift,” notes Erasmus. “When the environment is inviting, customers are more inclined to linger. That increased dwell time translates directly into boosted sales activity and positive brand association.”

Uncompromising safety and global standards

In line with Sanitech’s commitment to ‘zero harm,’ the new fragrance range is blended in France, and manufactured in strict compliance with the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards. This ensures that the scents are safe for high-traffic environments and sensitive individuals, including asthmatics.

“Health, safety, and environmental concerns are a priority for us,” says Erasmus. “By partnering with providers who hold the right global accreditations, like IFRA, we ensure that our inputs are controlled and safe for human health. It gives our clients the comfort that they are enhancing their environment without introducing new risks.”
