Honeywell integrates its Battery MXP with the AMP Center’s battery research lab

Honeywell has announced that its artificial intelligence-powered Battery Manufacturing Excellence Platform (Battery MXP) will be integrated into the Alabama Mobility and Power (AMP) Center’s battery research laboratory at the University of Alabama. The platform is designed to optimise battery manufacturing operations by improving cell yields and accelerating facility start-ups for producers at any scale.

The AMP Center serves as a research and development hub focused on modern mobility and power technologies, including charging infrastructure and power delivery systems needed to support the growth of electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems. By adopting Battery MXP as its exclusive automation platform, the lab will also help train the next generation of engineers and battery specialists.

Mike Oatridge, Executive Director of the AMP Center, said the initiative supports Alabama’s automotive industry while advancing solutions for data centre growth, grid stability and long-term electrification goals. Honeywell Process Automation Solutions President Russ Ford added that the rapid development of battery technology requires both advanced automation and a skilled workforce capable of operating large-scale production facilities.

At the AMP Center, Honeywell is also collaborating with FOM Technologies to optimise electrode production, one of the most complex stages in battery manufacturing. The partnership aims to deliver an end-to-end automation solution that helps original equipment manufacturers produce safer and more efficient batteries.

The AMP Center’s battery research lab is expected to open in the second quarter of 2026 and will operate as one of the first pilot battery production sites available to external organisations. As part of its workforce development initiative, the centre will provide students and engineers with hands-on experience using Honeywell’s automation technologies to build skills for careers in advanced manufacturing.
