Siemens introduces electronic motor starter with fast-response short-circuit protection

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has introduced the SIMATIC ET 200SP e-Starter, an advanced electronic motor starter that boosts industrial safety with ultra-fast short-circuit protection. Leveraging cutting-edge semiconductor technology, the e-Starter responds 1,000 times faster than traditional starters, minimizing fire risks in demanding applications like food processing, intralogistics, and mechanical engineering.

Designed with Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) platform, the e-Starter offers seamless integration and real-time diagnostics, allowing engineers to preemptively address safety issues. The device uses silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs to shut down in under 4 microseconds, reducing component wear and maintenance needs. Additionally, Siemens’ EcoTech-certified energy-efficient design promotes sustainability by using recycled materials and lowering energy consumption.

The SIMATIC ET 200SP e-Starter will debut at the SPS trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany, from November 12–14, 2024.
