Crowcon introduces IQ gas detector ecosystem for high risk industrial compliance

Crowcon has introduced the IQ range of connected portable gas detectors, now available for pre-order from Tuesday, 23 September. The new family includes single and dual-gas wearables, area monitors, and cloud-based insights designed for fleet-wide monitoring. According to the company, the devices are modular, connected, and built to simplify testing, calibration, and compliance. The range is intended for use in high-risk sectors such as oil and gas, renewables, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, utilities, and food and beverage.

A key focus of the IQ range is reducing downtime. Crowcon notes that nearly 80% of portable gas detectors in industry are not properly maintained or calibrated, often creating hidden safety risks. The IQ devices address this by completing bump tests in under 10 seconds and full calibrations in just 30 seconds. To further improve reliability, the detectors use downward-facing sensors to cut down false alarms and feature pre-calibrated sensor trays that can be swapped quickly. Wearable units also deliver exceptional battery life, running for up to six months on a single charge, more than double the industry norm.

The IQ range includes three main devices. The UnoIQ provides single-gas protection and can be upgraded midlife to monitor two gases. The DuoIQ monitors two gases in one device, offers long battery performance, and supports multiple sensor types. The DetectiveIQ is a powerful area monitor capable of detecting up to seven gases, with a 15-week battery life and mesh networking to link multiple units. All devices connect seamlessly with IQHub, enabling rapid testing and automatic data upload, while Crowcon Connect provides real-time visibility of alarms, compliance status, and device activity across multiple sites.

Commenting on the launch, Michael Vaux, Commercial Director at Crowcon, said: “The IQ range is a real game-changer, a genuine step forward in portable gas detection. We’ve packed it with everything safety teams need: industry-leading battery life, modular and serviceable sensor tech, and seamless connectivity. It’s about protecting people without adding cost or hassle. No other detector combines this level of flexibility and performance, scaling from single-worker protection to full site-wide monitoring. Safety should be simple, reliable, and future-proof—and that’s been our mission from the start.”

For fire and safety professionals, the IQ range could be particularly valuable. Its modular design allows detectors to be adapted to new hazards without downtime, ensuring operations continue smoothly. Rapid calibration reduces delays for contractors and site managers under tight deadlines, while the extended battery life lowers maintenance requirements across large fleets. The combination of real-time compliance tracking and mesh networking also offers strong support for safety officers, incident commanders, and emergency managers operating in confined spaces or temporary worksites.
